Jane Austen
Some of history’s most iconic pieces of female fiction were penned by Jane Austen, including Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, and Emma. These works have all been made into films. Although romance was a common topic in Austen’s writing, she never married herself and was mainly concerned with her writing career. Like the heroines in her books, Austen was beautiful and alluring. However, she knew that getting married would be a financial burden for women in the nineteenth century because it often damaged their inheritance.
According to one popular theory, Austen didn’t marry owing to a lack of enthusiasm for men. Although there is little evidence to back it up, she was rumored to have dated Tom Lefroy, who became the Lord Chief Justice of Ireland. However, the author refused him. She died at 40 years old, which was not unusual in her era. Austen was still unmarried and had no children of her own when she passed away unless you count her works, which continue to influence people today.
