Most people would agree that shouting at your waiter is extremely ungracious, even if America invented the term “Karen” in response to so many enraged citizens. They’re doing their best under challenging conditions with very little compensation. On the other hand, Koreans do not subscribe to this rule of thumb.

If you’re a server in South Korea, you may be shocked to learn that it’s acceptable to scream at your customers. You can also holler across the restaurant to get their attention in America, where we have to stand up or make eye contact because that is our culture.
