The Casual Hug isn’t So Casual
A handshake is always the most professional way to address someone in America, and hugs are strictly forbidden at work. However, in reality, America is a nation full of huggers who regularly greet their friends with embraces and conclude the night with a hug with someone they’ve never met before in social settings outside of the workplace.
In South Korea, hugs are excessively loving and are only given to highly close friends or family. Hugging individuals you have a casual relationship with is not advised. A handshake will suffice, although Asians are more likely to bow — a form of communication that is strange to us.
