Urban Planning with a Twist: Nifty Gadgets That Should Be in Every City

This street gadget is pretty niche but extremely cool. The crosswalk at this intersection has a standard crossing button for pedestrians walking. But it also has a special crossing button a few feet above the standard one with a cute equestrian pedestrian image. That’s right. This crosswalk is designed especially with horse riders in mind. 

These types of crosswalks actually have a specific name. They’re called “pegasus crossings” and are named after the mythical Greek stallion. With this special installation, horse riders don’t have to dismount or dangerously lean over their horse to push the crosswalk button. It’s so considerate, and we love to see it.
