Learning the hard way
There’s no occupation that’s shadier than being a real estate broker. They’re supposed to be the guys who connect potential tenants to potential property owners, but in many cases, they’re the middlemen trying to make a dishonest buck in any way they can. This person had the misfortune of being duped out of half a month’s rent by handing over a check before the apartment was confirmed ready.
However, that didn’t dissuade them from continuing their search. While walking through the Upper Eastside, they finally landed the perfect apartment. It was nice, fairly priced, and had no broker fees. However, please note that nice and fairly priced in New York have completely different standards from the rest of the world.
