Fullers
Fullers, also known in some places and during some areas as washerwomen or laundresses, were women who washed clothes for a living. This was before washing machines were invented, and laundry was only done by hand. Fullers were employed mostly by factories or big companies, and so they had to wash clothes in bulk.
The process of the washing was called “fulling,” which is why the laundress was called a fuller. It wasn’t just washing the clothes, but an an entire process, which is why being a fuller was a full-on profession, a practice, rather than just a job.
