Vivandières
Vivandieres was the name given to women who would accompany military units to the field and help them in different chores. The vivandières were attached to a unit, and they would perform different tasks, such as cooking, carrying canteens and attending to the wounded soldiers.
Originally, the vivandières would sell wine and goods to the soldiers, but with time, the term was adopted by other countries and came to entail other responsibilities. In the early 1900s, the job was banned. Despite the fact that it disappeared from the world, people remember the vivandières with nothing but respect and admiration.
