Groom of the Stool
This is a fancy name for a very humiliating job. The groom of the stool was an occupation popular during the Tudor Age of England. The groom of the stool was a servant of the monarch’s with a special job – he was in charge of assisting the king’s toilet needs. What are his toilet needs, you might wonder? He would accompany the monarch to the toilet, undress him and wait for him to finish his business.
Yes, we had no idea this job existed once, either. This is the part they don’t show you on periodical movies and TV shows about the old ages. Naturally, the Groom of the stool was always a man, and he was the person closest to the monarch, who had the most intimate relationship with him, and the man the king could rely on most. Still, we don’t think this job is worth the honor.
