Clock Winders
These days, most people don’t even learn how to read an analog clock – we all have a clock available to us at all times on our phones, and before that, digital clocks were prevalent. We don’t really see public clocks anymore either, as there’s no need for them, and so, naturally, there’s no need to employ a clock winder.
As the name suggests, the clock winders’ job was to wind back clocks, a task that required skill and patience. The clock winders would literally sit around the clock, winding and maintaining clocks. Like most jobs at the time, the Industrial Revolution had put an end to this occupation, when automatic clock-winders were available to replace the human labor force.
