Leech Collectors
As you might know, in the past, leeches were used in different kinds of medical procedures. They were believed to help treat different ailments, so they were in high demand among doctors and the medical crowd. While we’re grossed out just the word “leeches” and the thought of the slimy creatures, during the 19th century, people actually worked as leech collectors.
The leech collectors were in charge of collecting the leeches and providing them to doctors and anyone who wanted to buy them. Leeches were believed to cure diseases by sucking the infected blood from patients. Still, as different diseases became more and more common, people no longer believed in the efficacy of this treatment.
