Tane Ikai
Until 2014, Tane Ikai of Japan had held the record of the oldest person from both Japan and Asia. Misao Okawa broke this record. Ikai passed away at the age of 116 years, 175 days old. She was born in Aichi, Japan where she married her husband at the age of 20 and they had 4 children together. However, her marriage was short-lived as she separated from him at age 38.
Ikai was reported to eat three meals of porridge per day. She moved into a nursing home at the age of 89. Tane was known to be family-oriented as she played an active role as a mother, she also enjoyed sewing and pottery until she had a stroke in 1978. She suffered another one at age 109 that left her bedridden until she passed in 1995.
