Emiliano Mercado Del Toro
As the oldest Puerto Rican to make the list, Emiliano held the record for the oldest living person in the world for 44 days. He is also the oldest verified military veteran ever. He passed away on the 24th of January 2007 at the age of 115 years, 156 days. He was born in Cabo Rojo to parents Delfin Mercado and Gurmecinda del Toro. He worked in the cane fields until the age of 81 and was never married.
Throughout his life, he did have 3 girlfriends and he never had any children. Emiliano sure did have a lot of stories to tell. He could recall events such as the invasion of US troops in Puerto Rico when he was a child, which marked the end of Spanish colonial rule. He credits fuche as one of the reasons for his longevity -a coiled corn and codfish dish. He was also a witty and funny individual till his very last days.
