Augusta Holtz
Although she is far from being the oldest person to ever live today, she did manage to hold the record for well over a year at the time. She took the title after Mathew Beard died in February 1985. Augusta was a Polish American who died on the 21st October 1986 at the age of 115 years, 79 days. Augusta spent the first two years of her life in Poland which was then the Prussian Province of the German Empire.
She moved to the US at age 2 and her father owned a farm in Illinois. She married her husband in 1900 who then passed away in 1923. They had four kids together she later moved to Missouri where she lived until her last days. Holtz was smart and had a really good memory, in her final years she was able to list all of the presidents she had lived under. She enjoyed the news and had a keen interest in public figures such as Princess Diana and Nancy Reagan. She attributed her longevity to her many birthdays.
