Mary Bidwell
Mary Bidwell was born in 1881 and passed away in April 1996 at the age of 114 years 342 days, in Connecticut, USA. She married her distant cousin Charles Hubbell Bidwell in 1906 and together they had one son, she later became widowed in 1975 (after 69 years of marriage). Mrs. Bidwell died of old age physical ailments.
Mary Bidwell was a former school teacher and mentioned her love for books as well as her family. When later asked by the Hartford Courant on the biggest achievement for women, she noted the American voting rights being granted to women in 1919 – she cast her first ballot at the age of 39. Mrs. Bidwell did not have specific factors contributing to her longevity but she did mention not smoking or drinking, as well as enjoying a lot of fresh fruit and hot coffee.
