Ramona Trinidad Iglesias-Jordan
Born in 1889, Puerto Rican Ramona grew up in Utaudo, then a part of the Spanish Empire. She was the oldest of 11 siblings, her parents were Eduardo Iglesias-Ortiz and Luisa Jordan-Correa. Most of her siblings lived almost as long as she did, one of her sisters living until the age of 106. She died in 2004 of pneumonia at the age of 114 years, 271 days old.
Ramona was said to remember the Spanish-American war of 1898 and attended an elementary (she was only allowed to attend elementary school) school with Spanish-speaking teachers, however, she was fluent in English. She married Alfonso Alonzo-Soler in 1912, and although they never had children, they adopted Roberto Torres-Iglesias, who was 85 years old at the time of Iglesias-Jordan’s death.
