Yukichi Chuganji
This Japanese supercentenarian was the world’s oldest living person from 2002 to the time of his death. He was born on 23 March 1889 and died on 28 September 2003 at the age of 114 years, 189 days. He was born in his family’s farmhouse in Fukuoka, Japan. In 1914 he got married to Shika Chuganji, they conceived four sons and one daughter. Chumganji remained active and independent into his supercentenarian years.
He used to walk to town alone and vote in elections. In the year 2000, he lost his eyesight and as a result, he lost a large part of his independence and stayed inside in bed. He was the third man to reach the age of 114 and was the oldest Japanese man ever for a little over 10 years. He currently is verified as the world’s 6th-oldest man in history.
