#22: Airplane Etiquette
The unspoken rule of air travel is that the person in the middle seat gets both armrests on either side. This acknowledges the discomfort of the middle seat, which is forced between two people. After all, the other two seats both get an added benefit, so it is best to make the flight as fair and comfortable as possible for everyone.
Adhering to this unspoken rule reflects our commitment to respecting other people, especially in shared spaces when we’re forced to be near one another. We are not animals—don’t take both armrests unless you’re in the middle seat!
