#51: Problem Pilots
During the Vietnam war, helicopter pilots were like the Uber drivers of the warzone, but with way more action. The U.S. Army relied heavily on them for transportation, medical evacuation, and combat support. Over 12,000 helicopter pilots served in Vietnam, but sadly 2,000 of these were killed in action.
Even worse, the average lifespan of a helicopter pilot in combat was only about two weeks. Two weeks! That’s like a blink of an eye in wartime, let alone regular life. It’s important to remember that war is not a game, and these people sacrificed themselves for us. May they rest in peace.
