#43: Jeanette Rankin
It’s not the most exciting on the list because there are so many exciting, unsung heroes on here, but even so, Jeanette Rankin’s story is pretty darn exciting. It’s just unbelievable that women were doing so many important things in civil society before they were even granted the right to vote.

Looking back on it today, it’s almost inconceivable that for so many years, women were second-class citizens. Yet they were still finding ways to lead even without that power. And what better way to lead than to be elected to Congress, the very body in which you are prohibited from voting?
