#49: Harvey Hubbell
We all know about Edwin Hubble, who has a giant space telescope named after him, and we all know about L. Ron Hubbard, who has a giant cult (sorry, ahem, Church) named after him. Still, far fewer of us know about Harvey Hubbell, who has nothing named after him but only invented the electric socket!

I’m starting to feel quite sad for the inventors and researchers whose discoveries became so basic – so foundational to our functioning – that we barely see them as discoveries or inventions at all. Rather, we see them as the building blocks of our daily lives and forget that someone had to build them.
