#52: Virginia Apgar
There are so many incredible men and women who have contributed to science that we will never know about. But this woman, Virginia Apgar, deserves all the praise she gets. Even though she finished fourth in her class at Columbia University, making her mark in the world wasn’t easy.

Being a woman in the medical world of the 1930s and 1940s wasn’t easy, but against all odds, Virginia altered the physical health of newborns forever when she developed the Apgar Score.
