Disneyland Mermaids, Submarine Lagoon, 1960s
Well, this isn’t your average job interview, that’s for sure! Back in the 1960s, when this photograph was taken, Disneyland had just opened a new ride called Submarine Lagoon. They decided to add a special touch to the ride to make it extra special for visitors – real-life mermaids! By mermaids, we mean women wearing plastic tails.
Disneyland had to host tryouts to find their perfect mermaids, and this job was so coveted that hundreds of young women showed up to show off their swimming skills. This was probably an intense but super fun job. Imagine getting paid to swim around and lay in the sun all day.
