62,500 Punch Cards, 1955
Can you imagine a world without the technology we have today? Some of you probably can, and yet it seems pretty far from us. So many technological inventions have made our everyday lives and our jobs way easier than they used to be. Nowadays, the thought of doing anything manually just sounds like it would take forever. Data entry has certainly changed from when this photo was taken in 1955.
Back in the day, punched cards were the most common way for businesses and governments to record and process data. This photo shows a stack of 62,500 punched cards, and an employee standing next to it for scale. All of this paper would amount to about 4.5 megabytes of data today, and the necessary storage space is a lot smaller now!
