Happiness is Overrated
Buying clothes with writing on it has almost become the next big thing. Ever since the 80s with the ‘Frankie Says Relax’ shirts, people have really adopted this kind of design. Sure, these text-filled pieces of clothing can be effective, and even appealing, but not if the text itself is completely misleading.
Instead of reading the shirt as Bobby McFerrin intended, we instead read “Don’t be happy, worry”. Because of the interesting color choice and placement, the shirt has taken on a whole new meaning than what was meant for it. And to be honest, this doesn’t actually sound like the happy-go-lucky tune it once was.
