#12: Presidency Takes Its Toll
Similar to buildings the other sub-genre of “historical before and after pics” can be equally effective in demonstrating the significance of the passage of time, though this time on the people that we’ve become familiar with and whose very faces represent so much to us of the way that we understand them.
Here are two photos of Abraham Lincoln, the first taken in 1861 and the second in 1864 (more or less at the beginning and the end of the Civil War). While your eye might be drawn initially to the addition of a beard, take note of just how much more wrinkled he became in just four years.
