#35: Quite Literally an Airship
This unfinished airship is an “air” ship in the literal sense of the word – comprised mainly of air, while its frame still lacks its outer covering. Seeing as we really don’t see many blimps any more you really forget how big they were. The sheer size agains those people is jaw-dropping.

Yet, am I the only one who sees a photo like this and immediately imagines the smoke and flames of the Hindenburg explosion? I mean, it’s not without good reason. This ship, the USS Macon, would also go on to crash just two years after it was completed and launched in 1933.
