#20: Cute & Cuddly Caterpie
If you’re a child of the 90s and early 2000s, chances are you have a favorite Pokémon. Each new generation of Pokémon seems more creative than the last, but did you know that some of these fictional creatures are based on real animals found in nature? We have a few of these Pokémon featured on this list. First up: Caterpie!
Caterpie is the cute Bug-type Pokémon beloved by many. Caterpie is very obviously modeled after a caterpillar, especially when you consider the fact that it evolves into the butterfly Pokémon Butterfree. Caterpie is specifically inspired by the eastern tiger swallowtail caterpillar, which is mainly found in eastern North America. The resemblance is pretty obvious, with both of the creatures having a bright green body and orange antennae.
