#22: Orange Is the New Black
You probably know about the hit Netflix series Orange is the New Black, but did you know it’s based on a true story? The show’s main character, Piper Chapman, is based on the very real and very alive Piper Kerman. In fact, the whole show is based on Piper’s memoir of the same name, which was published in 2010.
The real-life Piper tells of her wild experiences in her memoirs. Much like in the show, she fell in love with the wrong woman, who was the reason why she ended up in jail. Oh my. Then, Piper smuggled $10,000 across international borders and eventually got caught. Although the show exaggerated some parts and made up storylines for added drama, it generally follows Piper’s life story.
