#9: A Call Back to History
Did you watch Oprah’s interview with Meghan and Prince Harry? We know we were glued to the screen when it aired in March 2021. While we were all sipping the hot tea, Meghan made a very subtle nod to another duchess from the British monarchy’s past that few people noticed.

Meghan Markle’s Giorgio Armani gown can be seen as a nod to Wallis Simpson, another American who married into the royal family back in the 1930s. Wallis had a relationship with King Edward VIII, who was forced to abdicate the throne to marry her. Not only was she an American, but she was divorced, too. Hmm, that sounds familiar… Meghan and Wallis don’t have much in common beyond that, but it’s always interesting when a deeper meaning can be read into a fashion choice.
