Read the Fine Print
If you get a weird feeling about a new job, don’t be afraid to ask questions. This guy did, and it made him realize he had accepted a job at a place he probably wouldn’t like very much. He attended an orientation for new IT hires. The HR team immediately passed out one-page contracts for everyone to sign. Instead of signing right away, he decided to read the fine print.
Boy, was he glad he did! He noticed a clause that said something about consenting to personal search and seizure while at work. Um… what?! He asked to see the security policy because it wasn’t attached to the contract that was passed out. The HR team immediately got defensive and singled him out during the orientation by saying he was “struggling.” He wasn’t struggling – he was trying to find out what was up with his new employer!
