Be Careful What You Wish For…
King Alfred the Great was king of the Anglo-Saxons from 886 to 899, and is remembered for unifying many territories in England. There are many legends told about King Alfred the Great, and although we’re not sure which ones are true and which ones are tales, they still live on in popular culture.
According to an official biographer, Alfred prayed for an illness that would help him resist the desire he felt as a young man. Supposedly, his prayers were answered… in the form of hemorrhoids. His wedding night was spent in discomfort and he had them for the rest of his life.
