Painted
You may be wondering how some huge scenes were pulled off in the original trilogy. In some shots, there seem to be these impressive, large sets with hundreds of extras all standing around. Well, the answer may surprise you because what they did was use an old trick that fell out of popularity, paint.
That’s right, hand-painted sets and images were used various times throughout the original trilogy. They needed to get creative and compensate for the lack of technology and special effects they had at the time. Amazing what people could achieve without CGI or fancy image technology back in the earlier days of film.
