Social Media Posts and Comments That Shed Light on How Some Americans View The World

July 27, 2010 by Regina Clarke

Everyone knows that Americans have some rather unflattering stereotypes, and with the rise of social media, the exploits of “Karen” seem widespread; but this simply isn’t the case. As with any group of people or nationality, a few bad examples set up an unfavorable reputation for the rest of us. In reality, many people across the globe still consider the United States the land of opportunity, especially for enterprising and hardworking individuals. Even if you’re not hoping to make your fortune on America’s freedom-laden soil, the U.S. also sets a precedent for other countries to follow in terms of freedom of expression, equality, and innovation. When you think about all these things, it makes the following photos much more unbelievable in the most comical way. Grab a friend and have a good chuckle at how outlandish these particular specimens of America are.

#1: The Beatles Are British?

There probably isn’t a single person who hasn’t heard of the Beatles. Like many artists, even today, the band’s popularity skyrocketed thanks to their tour in the U.S. You wouldn’t have thought the members were British just from looking at their sense of style and signature haircuts, but apparently there are some looks that just aren’t American.

In true British fashion, John Lennon’s reply to the reporter’s pointed comment was the perfect mix of sarcasm and professional politeness. The Beatles would go on to become one of the most celebrated rock bands no matter what people thought about their un-American haircuts. Who knew that first impressions weren’t everything?
