#12: Ready for Battle
Battling mice, that is. This is the Mouse Bunker, located in Berlin. It’s an animal research facility (the most horrifying one I have ever seen), and it’s nestled away in a tiny part of town. The architect, Gerd Hänska, was going for a gruesome look, and I think we all have to agree they nailed it.
The property owners are currently fighting the city for the right to demolish it, as it is rarely used, and the associated costs are very high. Historical preservationists would like to see it remain. The tubes you see along the side are air tubes that provide airflow for the cells in which the animals are kept while they are being tested and bred.
