#43: Soften the Blow
Sometimes, wires are crossed and signals are misinterpreted. You might think someone’s catching your drift, picking up what you’re putting down, but, in reality, their heart’s not in it. Take these texts in the image below, for example. The sender expresses their excitement regarding an upcoming “one-on-one” dinner.
Or so they thought. The responder sends a series of messages gently reminding the conversation starter that it’s a “dinner hangout” and not a date. “We’re inviting other people, right? I invited a friend, invite someone you know,” the other person says. Oof. Talk about a swift punch to the gut! It’s a rejection without overtly stating it.
