Unrealistic Expectations
When it comes to the Barbie doll, there are many things that should be celebrated. The fact that she has been around for more than 60 years and has always been sporting a different career, outfit, and even lifestyle, the Barbie doll has always been somewhat of a beacon of hope for little kids everywhere.
But the thing is, just as her body image poorly promotes self-love and worth, her many aspirations in life also had the potential to affect children. Sure, there was something wonderful about seeing your favorite doll take on the world, one career at a time, but her many professions were never really addressed. Little girls needed that sort of inspiration, but they also needed evidence of how to do such things in their own lives.
