The Secret to Fishing Cats Hunting Success

January 30, 2022 by Regina Clarke

Fishing cats have excellent hunting skills, but how did they end up being so skillful with fishing? The secret to fishing cats hunting success is their unique fish hunting skills. The fishing cat is in the same family as the regular house cats, which makes them very similar to other cats.

However, when it comes time for them to find food they resort to hunting fish. Unlike their relatives that hunt mice or birds, these guys go after much larger prey…fish.

Fishing Cats are skilled at hunting fish in a number of different areas, but what makes them the best is their strategy.

Why Fishing Cats are so Skilled at Hunting Fish

In order to understand why fishing cats have become such skilled hunters who hunt fish, you need to know how they go about catching prey. First of all, these guys can swim. They use this skill in conjunction with their eyesight and hunting skills to catch fish.

When they see a fish, they jump into the water after it even if the water might be extremely murky or dirty. It isn’t like them to give up on prey once they start chasing it.

The next step is that these cats use their long body to wrap around the fish and drown it, so they can eat it later.

Not many cats catch their prey this way, the only other cat I know who does this is the ocelot. So how do fishing cats have such great hunting skills? It all comes from being a part of a small group of cats that focus on getting food in a different manner.

Most cats are solitary hunters, while these guys hunt in packs…or at least that is what their close relatives do. Fishing cats live around the same areas as tigers and leopards which might be why they learned to hunt like them. They follow these big guys around waiting for opportunities to grab some fish when nobody else is looking.

The fishing cat is one of the few cats who can eat almost anything. They might not go after mice, but they would if there were no fish to eat. That’s why their hunting skills are so great. You never know when a big fish will come along and that’s exactly what these guys rely on.

In conclusion, the secret to fishing cats hunting success is that they are able to ambush unsuspecting fish out of nowhere. Not many animals can do this, which makes their skills all the more impressive. Imagine the cat version of a crocodile…except with fur and awesome swimming skills.
