#5 Billy Bean
It’s fair to say that Billy Bean’s time spent playing in MLB was pretty unremarkable, to say the least. He started his professional career with the Detroit Tigers before packing up and moving to Los Angeles to play for the Dodgers. 3 years later, he was out of the league and played for the Kintetsu Buffaloes in Japan before returning to the MLB and retiring as a Padres.
Later, he became well-known for being the first Major League Baseball (MLB) “inclusion ambassador” after publicly coming out of the closet in 1999. All the details of his MLB and personal journey can be found in his memoir Going the Other Way: Life Lessons from Major League Baseball.
