More Than a Body: Comical and Inspiring Times People Clapped Back at Body-Shamers

October 6, 2010 by Jesse Olson

Beyonce is considered a symbol of confidence and self-esteem, but that was not always the case for the 542 awards winner. When Destiny’s Child rose to fame, the singer was only 18 years old, and she was already experiencing hateful comments about her body. Beyonce’s career would have taken a very different path if she had listened to such comments, but instead, she chose to become an inspiration to women across the world.

And thank God she did, can you imagine a world without Lemonade? But in all seriousness, it’s amazing to see how much her confidence and courage inspire women to feel good about themselves. That’s what fame is supposed to be all about, not people trying to make us feel bad about our bodies, gender, and sexuality. Celebrities have a moral duty to contribute positively to our society, and it’s amazing to see when they do.
