Seeing this photo without context doesn’t make a lot of sense. We can see a man perched on a rooftop next to a chimpanzee. The man seems to be talking to the chimpanzee, who seems to be hiding his face in shame or exasperation. Okay, what’s going on here?

This photo from 1988 shows the Belgrade Zoo director urging Sami the Chimpanzee to home home after he had escaped the zoo. After some persuading, director Vuk Bojović was able to convince Sami to return to the zoo, and the two held hands as he took Sami to his car and drove him back to the zoo.
