#28: Gaze Upon Me
This is not an astronaut. No, it’s a crypt found underneath a church, and for some reason I cannot even begin to fathom it; they left a viewing hole into the coffin so people could gaze upon the body. That’s an actual human face you’re looking at right now.

The crypt was found underneath a church in South Carolina and is believed to be around 130 years old. This isn’t as uncommon as you’d think, though. A man by the name of Dr. Johann Gottfried Taberger invented the “viewing coffin” in 1816 because he had a fear of being buried alive, known as taphophobia.
