Willie Mays – 1952 Topps
Another baseball legend takes up the list. Willie “The Say Hey Kid” Mays began his career with the New York Giants and followed them across the country to San Francisco, where he finished it. His last two seasons were spent with the New York Mets.
In 1951, Mays was Rookie of the Year, MVP twice in his career, held the 1954 Batting Title and ML Player of the Year; he was a 12-time Golden Glove winner, made 24 All-star appearances, was part of the 1954 World Series champion team, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1979. His 1952 card brought $478,000 last year.
