Mickey Mantle – 1951 Bowman
Mickey Mantle is well-known to baseball fans all across the United States, particularly in New York. Mantle was dubbed the “Commerce Comet” (he attended Commerce High School) because of his effectiveness on the field. He won a slew of accolades, including the American League Triple Crown in 1956, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1974.
Mantle’s 1951 Bowman card is the only official rookie card released. His appeal is due, in part, to the baby boomers who grew up watching him play, as well as the following generation that was starstruck by his legendary status. This excellent condition card sells for more than $500,000.
