Napoleon Lajoie – 1933 Goudey #106
During his eighteen-year career, Nap Lajoie, also known as Larry Lajoie and widely known as “The Frenchman,” played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Athletics, and Cleveland Naps. From 1905 to 1909, he managed the naps for four seasons. He won three batting titles during his career and was regarded as one of the greatest players of his era.
The 1933 Goudey set included no copies of this card and collectors wanting to complete the set had to order it and contact Goudey. The card was later sent to them separately with a paper clip, leaving indentations on the delicate paper. This is one of the reasons why the card is so rare and valuable; its price tag is $200,000.
