Etiquette
Knowing how to act in each particular social situation you find yourself in is a key part of being a functioning adult. It’s why we make such a big deal about manners when we’re raising our children, and why we make great pains to ensure they don’t fart in the middle of the church service on Sunday.
While we might know how we should behave as adults, it doesn’t stop us from really wanting to throw courtesy and decorum to the wind if something or someone rubs us up the wrong way. In this example, we have the dilemma that comes from really wanting to react but realizing that dearly departed Aunt Phyllis wouldn’t appreciate your stealing the limelight.
