Ways Trees Help our Planet

May 9, 2021 by Veronica Phillips

Today we’re going to share some fun information about the trees in our world. Trees are a fabulous part of our ecosystem and they help our planet in many ways.

We’ll share everything you need to know about trees and how they help our planet so that you can start planting more trees and appreciate the trees that surround your world today.

Improve Air Quality

Trees absorb pollutants through their leaves which gives our air a better quality for breathing.

Improve Water Quality

The tree leaves hold water to keep it from falling too quickly to the ground so that it can evaporate and then become healthier water as it hits the ground.

Prevents Erosion

Since the leaves hold most of the water as it pours down, some water is evaporated so that the forest ground isn’t saturated with water that erodes the soil and root growth.

Temper Climate

Trees influence wind speed and can help lower air temperatures which help temper climate. This allows the weather to maintain a better temperature for reduced risk of climate warming.

Conserve Energy

Placing the right number of trees around your home help shade the home during hot months so that you save money on energy costs.

Improved Home Value

Homes that are surrounded by trees tend to sell for higher prices than those without trees around them.

Habitat for Small Animals

Wherever trees grow into a forest, the small animals find homes. The owls, squirrels, and other small animals enjoy using the trees for their homes during the year.

Reduce Noise

A tree that grows 100 feet wide and 50 feet tall has been shown to reduce highway noise by 10d decibels. This is why you may see more large trees grown by highways where communities line the highway.

Trees are grown in so many different places, but we read that trees grown in communities where people live within apartment buildings tend to reduce crime rates. We’re not sure how true this is or what studies have been conducted to prove that more trees in a community equal lower crime rates, but hey?! It’s worth a try to grow some trees and see if it helps.

The world is full of trees, but as we continue using trees for our wood and paper supply, the forests are being depleted. We hope that our ways trees help our planet information today helps inspire you to grow more trees and think twice before cutting a tree down in the future.
