#49: Ichi Ni San
This next post made me curious, so I researched the origins of the name “Nissan.” It turns out that it comes from a name of a holding company associated with the automobile brand, which was called Nihon Sangyo, or Nihon [Japan] Industries. That was abbreviated down to Nissan.
But it turns out the name could have another meaning in Japanese: it sounds like the words for two and three. Because of that, the number features in some of their ads. It’s a nice little Easter egg for those of you who speak Japanese, or who have read this article.
