Is Living Near a Power Line Bad for your Health?

August 12, 2021 by Jesse Olson

Living near a power line may not be as bad for your health as you think. Today we’re discussing the effects of living near a power line, and if it’s bad for your health.

The sources of electricity generation can be classified into three types: coal, oil, and natural gas. There are power plants fired by nuclear reactors as well. It has been proven that some radiation exists around the power lines, but they are harmless.

The electromagnetic fields around power lines and electric appliances are different, and the levels of radiation from each source are still very low. Although they may not have a huge effect on human health, living near a power line can cause other problems.

The houses in the neighborhoods close to a power line cannot be built as high as those further away because of the height of the power line. It will limit your view, and prevent you from building a house on a high position.

The value of these houses drops as well because they are not as appealing to others and you cannot sell them easily. They are also harder to rent out because people that live in a neighborhood with power lines don’t like the idea of living near the power lines.

There are plenty of people who are interested in renting these houses because they are cheaper, but it is difficult to live there if you don’t want to.

Power lines can also affect land values, which means that they give off negative externalities which affects your health.

There are also many complaints of the noisy humming noise coming out from those power lines, and not only that, but you may be at risk of getting an electric shock. They have found that if you live close to a power line for more than 30 years will increase your chances of health problems as well.

Another problem is the electromagnetic fields around power lines and electric appliances. The levels of radiation from each source are still very low, but the power line is more concentrated because it’s closer to you.

If you live close to a power line for a long time won’t cause any serious health problems, but it looks bad on your house, reduces the value of your property and increases your chance of health problems because you live close to a power line for such a long time.

I hope you found this article to be informative and interesting. I think the conclusion is clear: living near a power line isn’t necessarily bad for your health, but living near one can affect your property, view, and increase your chances of health problems. It’s not dangerous to live nearby them, but if you don’t want to live near them it might be a good idea to move.
