Is Time Travel Possible?

December 8, 2020 by Dave Brooks

With many films depicting time travel as a possibility and various online outlets swear that time travel is real, it’s no wonder more people wonder whether or not we can travel through time. Today we’re diving into the topic of time travel to learn whether or not it’s theoretically possible.

If we visit Einstein’s general theory of relativity you’ll learn that you can indeed warp time to a higher degree to force it to fold on itself. This would result in a time loop, and if you’ve ever watched any science fiction time travel shows, you know that this would cause someone to keep reliving the same loop of time every day.

While you would be reliving the same timeline over and over, you wouldn’t be consciously aware that you were reliving the same timeline. This means that if time travel is indeed possible, the average human being may not realize they’re experiencing this time loop.

We’ve learned in Hawking’s “Chronology Protection Conjecture,” that you cannot travel into the past and change history. Since nature doesn’t allow time loops to occur it wouldn’t allow you to adjust something in the past to create a new future timeline. However, visiting the past and reliving it over again is theoretically possible.

Many people tell us that we need negative mass to create a time loop and negative mass doesn’t occur in nature.  Some machines have been created to create negative mass, and are feared to have created a black hole, but this is just speculation as it seems that the average person isn’t privy to such details.

At this time, NASA has confirmed that you can experience time travel but it’s not in the way our science fiction movies depict it. Rather, you can slow time down so that you’re experiencing your life at a different rate than one second by one section intervals.

While some want to travel back in time to change their past, the reality is that your past will come back to you.  Regardless of whether one can time travel and adjust their past is irrelevant because those who believe in time travel also believe that your ultimate destiny happens regardless of what you do, it’s just a matter of which path gets you there.

And so it seems, we’ll be talking about time traveling for a long time before anyone knows for sure if this concept is possible and if the average human being would be able to experience time travel in their lifetime.
