Possibilities of Life on Mars

September 3, 2023 by Dave Brooks

As of today, there hasn’t been any proof of life on Mars, however, there are signs that may lead you to presume that there’s a possibility of life on Mars. Today we’re going to chat a bit about Mars and the information we have on hand right now so that you can make an educated guess as to whether or not you feel there could be a possibility of life on Mars.

Out of all of the planets out there, Mars tends to be the one that gives scientists hope for the possibility of life. Mars is a smaller and colder planet than Earth. Circumstantial evidence has shown that there was water flowing on Mars billions of years ago, which could lead to the idea that life was once something that existed on our distant cousin, The Red Planet.

The fact that sub-surfaces do reside on Mars gives us hope that there’s a possibility for life on Mars. There are tiny hematite spheres and evidence of sedimentary rock, both of which need an environment like Earth to thrive. This would lead the most educated of people to determine that life on Mars, if not now, was at least possible billions of years ago!

There are recent discoveries from the Rover sent to Mars that showcase the possibility of seasonal changes on The Red Planet. For example, NASA was able to witness methane gas being let out during specific times of year mainly two times that appear to be a Mars winter and spring season. This sign of changing seasons is a fabulous reason why anyone may assume that life on Mars is a possibility.

Most scientists will agree that there are signs that life once existed on Mars. The signs that this planet was once covered with running water, such as streams, and specific rock samples that have been returned showcase a life-like planet, are just too much to overlook. The reality is that there may have very well been life on this planet billions of years ago, so did they just burn up, and will Earth be facing the same situation in the future?!

Since there is so much evidence about life on Mars, the only thing that most of us have to question is whether there was once life on Mars billions of years ago and will never be, or perhaps there’s a possibility for life on Mars in the future. These questions will stay unanswered until NASA does more research and we get more feedback from The Red Planet to determine how much of a possibility living on Mars would truly be for Earth citizens.
